Tank Man is Still a Hero

This famous photo was taken around twenty years ago in Communist China and is still very symbolic of the fight we all fight – how to keep our dignity in the face of an oppressive government intent on rolling right over the top of us. This happened in China, but it is also happening in the U.S. today, right now.

What happens if you decide you don’t want to let TSA pat you down? What happens if you decide you don’t want to tell a Border checkpoint your nationality? What happens if you try to video the cops shooting an unarmed homeless man in Albuquerque? What happens if you speak up at a school board meeting about Common Core? What happens if you write an article in the newspaper unflattering to a Senator or important person? What happens if men in uniforms and carrying weapons move into your home and take it over as a command post as they look for “terrorists”. What happens if you want to say a prayer at school? What happens if you want to have a gun in case someone breaks down your door?

There are, these days, all kinds of government tanks coming down the highway. Sometimes the tanks are really big machines. Sometimes they are just a host of rules and regulations for you, your business, your family, your community – made by men who don’t represent you but represent the Government.

Tank man remains a hero, standing tall and reminding us that individuals are important.

This man was eventually taken off to jail by authorities and probably put in a Gulag somewhere deep in China with all the other political prisoners. The Government has camps ready for those who don’t like unwarranted authority, who question, who get in the way.

Wherever Tank Man is we want to be with him.
